Some may not agree with their actions but those actions have had serious implications of online security. The grapevine has always been rife with talk of Facebook catching up to the search giant corporation, Google. This rumour has been around for quite some time now and the rumors are now being fed by the social site’s partnership with Bing, the Microsoft search engine. Tech blogs are filled with speculation on the move and the impact expected.
The latest move by the social site could be an indicator of how they may just act in response. Facebook’s new feature is the Graph Search that has been announced on the site. The new feature looks like it is an early attempt to challenge Google’s niche, though the product itself is not quite up to par with Google’s search engine. The difference between the two lies in their mode of operation and Facebook’s feature will work by looking at an individual’s social network, for information that it feels will be relevant to your search unlike Google, which pulls the information from the respective websites themselves. The giant corporation Google is always on the front line when it comes to innovation, the company is researching another idea that will bring an upheaval to account access, by making the need for passwords unnecessary.
The corporation has just announced that it is giving up on guidelines to password creation and it is opting to look for a better option, which is the interesting suggestion that web users who are security conscious, carry a physical key like gadget in favour of phasing out passwords to access accounts. Initially it was only Facebook and Twitter that first indicated the issue of their hacking attacks in the news. It now turns out that many other companies too, have been targeted in the breach of security, though this fact seemed isolated before. In the last few days, more corporations have come out on the same issue from social media giants like Pinterest and Tubmlr to IT firms like Microsoft. Zendesk and Aple too were not left unscathed in the attacks.
Fortunately, for some these corporations in spite of employee computers being malware infected, the data on customers has not been affected and these include social media giant Facebook, and Microsoft. The customers of Apple are safe and the organization believes that the hackers got in through a malfunctioning java plug in for the browsers.
